May 23, 2025: Bonus Buzz - Dappling
Bee’s Got Dapps (and we don't have to call the vet!)
Ever noticed those shiny little spots popping up on a horse’s coat, like they’ve been dusted in moonlight? Those are dapples—and they’re a whole vibe.
Dappling is when a horse’s coat shows lighter or darker circular spots, often on the ribs, flanks, or hindquarters. While not every horse gets them, when they do, it usually means things are going well: great nutrition, strong health, good grooming habits—and maybe just a little horse magic.
Some horses, like Bee, seem to get dapples as a seasonal glow-up—most often in the spring or summer when their coats are sleek and the sun’s out to show them off. Think of it as a natural highlight reel.
Genetics play a role too—dapple grays are famous for their shifting, spotted coats. But even bays and chestnuts can dapple with the right care -- see picture evidence, we must be doing something right!
Want to help dapples shine?
A balanced diet with copper, zinc, and omega-3s
Consistent grooming to boost circulation
Clean coats and happy horses
So next time you spot dapples, know it’s more than just a pretty pattern—it’s a sign of a well-loved horse. And Bee? She’s shimmering in all the right ways.
