Jun 14, 2025: Bee Joins the In Crowd & Goodbye to Old Friends We went into the week expecting rain—and planned accordingly. Sunday brought some beautiful weather, so I saddled up for a good ride with Bee across the scenic property. She’s still a little spooky outside the arena, especially in unfamiliar spots, but her curiosity and my stern kicks keeps her moving forward. We’re making progress, one careful step at a time. One tool that might help is Clinton Anderson’s No Worries Club. I’ve been eyeing his method and groundwork program, but for now, it's on the wish list while we prioritize Wise Market LLC sales over splurges. This week was also full of transitions. We said goodbye to Marvelous, Martini, and our little mini buddy, Rudy. It’s always hard watching herd dynamics shift, especially for Bee, who just started finding her footing in the front pasture. Speaking of footing—Bee got a little treat experiment: a Pedialyte ice pop. Verdict? Nope. She turned her nose up at it. The rest of the front herd did the same, so we’re all wondering… if horses won’t eat it, should our kids? For Bee, carrots are still the undefeated favorite snack. On the social front, herd politics took an unexpected turn. Neville, the boss gelding who’s made it his mission to keep Bee isolated, has a new target—enter Hannibal Lechter (you read correctly), the latest gelding addition. With Neville’s attention diverted, Bee’s been granted a little breathing room. And guess what? She’s using it to cozy up with the cool crowd. Her new running mate? Gypsy. They’ve been spotted grazing, wandering, and just hanging out together like longtime pals. Things are looking up for our girl. New bonds, old routines, and all the sass we love.

A market research company is looking for horse owners to come and give their opinions on horse feed etc. It’s a 90 minute focus group, Tuesday the 17th next to the Galleria in Dallas. 🐝 The Weekly Buzz with Bee – June 7, 2025 🐝 This week, Bee had a special visitor all the way from Kansas City—our friend Elise! 🐴✨ It had been years since Elise had been on a horse, but Bee was the perfect partner. I led them around the arena, coaching Elise on cues, and Bee was calm, patient, and completely sweet. When Elise was unsure, Bee would walk away… then circle back to me like a magnet (Bee still my heart 💛). That’s her groundwork training kicking in—knowing who to trust and when to return. In big news: Bee moved her digs! With some boarders leaving, we played a little musical stalls. She’s now got a spot in the main barn for bad weather and stall rest, but most days she’s out grazing with the front herd—which we hope will do wonders for her health and routine. She’s learning new rhythms, new stall mates (hello Martini and Vita!), and making new friends. Pearl the mini pony became her instant BFF, but Neville, the front pasture boss, is still throwing shade (and charges 😬). It’s keeping the other horses at a distance, but we’re hoping everyone chills out soon. Bee’s also adjusting to the barn’s new let-in and let-out routine—she’s already mastered waiting her turn and finding her stall. Now if only she’d come in for other people, not just me. 😂 We also had a visit from our amazing farrier, Shawn Kelly, this week for Bee’s routine hoof care. He’s a lifesaver for this novice horse mom still learning the ropes of hoof maintenance. 🧰🐾 And a heartfelt goodbye to Sinjari, who headed to the East Coast this week. 🐝 The Weekly Buzz with Bee – May 24, 2025 🐝 This week was all about boundaries, breakthroughs, and a few well-timed carrots. 🥕💛 Let’s start with the ranch's newest experiment: Fly Predators—tiny wasps that prey on fly larvae. We’re hopeful this eco-friendly trick will help curb the buzzing brigade that’s out in full force right now. 🪰🤞 As for Bee? She’s officially become my shadow in the pasture. Not only does she come to me—she seeks me out when she hears my voice. (Let’s be honest… she definitely associates it with carrots. Can’t blame her.) 😅 🐴 Groundwork Progress Report: We’re working hard on “standing still” and respecting personal space. Bee has a habit of pushing into me with her nose—her subtle way of saying she’s the boss. Not anymore! Now, she stands away from me until invited in, helping re-establish some clear leadership. ✋ We're also tackling mounting manners. She likes to drift away from the step stool—clearly testing the reins (literally and figuratively). So we’re reinforcing the idea that if she wants to move her feet, it’ll be my idea, not hers. Yesterday? Two successful mounts with no movement—and she stood still for nearly three minutes, mostly focused on me. 🥹 Small wins, big progress. 🐎 Lesson Time: Bee let me mount from the step again like a total pro and ran barrels without complaint. Remember, this girl won APHA in barrels with her previous owner, so when she sees a pattern… she wants to go fast. I’m still playing catch-up on the “expert” front.😅 Walking her to lessons has been a battle—especially after breakfast and on pasture days. But I had a revelation: switched from halter to bridle, and—voilà!—no sass, no resistance.
