June 27, 2025: Kitty Litter, Cat Cuddles & Stall Wins

It’s official—we’ve found our rhythm. Between grazing, feed, hormone support, and exercise, Bee and I are finally in sync. While I once had to look everything up, now her care feels intuitive. That’s not to say things are uneventful—this week brought a few unexpected twists!

Let’s talk about Bee’s stall habits (in the classiest way possible). When she lived on the “Penthouse” side of the barn, she spent more than half her time inside. And let’s just say… it showed. Her stall was always wet and, well, fragrant. But since moving to the inside barn with nearly 24/7 turnout, things improved—until this week.

When she did pee in her stall again, I decided to try something new: kitty litter. Yes, kitty litter. I placed it where she usually goes, and not only has she stopped using that corner, but she actually rolled in her stall for the first time since I’ve known her! A horse that rolls in her stall? That’s comfort and trust.

In barn-speak, we sometimes call low-maintenance horses “easy keepers.” This term describes horses that don't require a lot of specialized or intensive care and can thrive on relatively less feed and grooming. Bee isn’t necessarily low maintenance. What’s changed is me. I’ve learned her rhythms. I’ve dialed in her care. She hasn’t become easier—I’ve become better.

Maple the barn cat continues to steal hearts, especially mine. She greets me daily with meows and purrs like we’ve been best friends forever. It’s those little connections—human, horse, and feline—that make barn life so special.
